Sony will upgrade its Xperia Phones and Tablets S & P to Android 4.0 this spring

Published on Jan 25, 2012

Sony has confirmed that its Tablet S and P slates and Xperia range will be getting Android 4.0 thsi spring.

Sony has decided to upgrade its tablets to the Android 4.0 operating system at the same time that it had earlier scheduled the update for its Xperia handsets. If all goes well, Tablet S and Tablet P will start running ICS within the next few months.

The company is reportedly testing the update on its tablets already. Though Sony hasn’t released too many details about the upgrade, according to The Verge, it has hinted that it will be adding ‘some really cool, unique bits’ to the tablets apart from ICS itself.

This is good news for Sony loyalists, especially since Sony’s tablets, though practically designed, have not done well in the past in the face of competition from players like Apple and Samsung. ICS might just be what Sony tablets need to get a new lease on life.

Even the Xperia line of handsets will get a shot in the arm with ICS. In fact, the phones might just be able to give competing handsets a run for their money.

2012 is the year that Sony is going to be building its name in the market independently of Ericsson and it looks like the scheduled ICS update will be the perfect platform for the company to take off from.
