Research in Motion CEO, Thornton Heins has significant plans to nurse BlackBerry back to health

The new Research in Motion, CEO Thornston Heins has promised significant changes for BlackBerry.
The CEO remarked about some failures that need to be addressed at home and outside markets. Immediate servings on the plate would be BlackBerry 7 and Playbook 2.
Heins told Reuters, ‘the major concern for BlackBerry is the substantial loss of its U.S market share into the hands of Apple and Google. That is something that we have to address’
Thornton Heins who has been working as COO in the RIM for the past four years knows RIM very well. He has rightly marked that in U.S only 20 percent BlackBerry users are using latest devices and many who are using it already don’t have the software upgrades.
So the first step is to give users the desired BlackBerry 7 upgrades. One of the major reasons behind losing market is lack of innovation which now company plans to overcome by licensing its software.
Playbook 2 is another product that the CEO is banking on.
The original Playbook is being sold at discounted prices to compensate the cost and spark the consumer interest towards the RIM tablet.
All these are short term goals and will certainly create some space for the RIM but the only change that will revive the BlackBerry in the smartphone market is its BlackBerry OS 10.
However there will be a delay in the launch of the phones until the later part of 2012 'as it is awaiting the availability of a high-powered chip.’
