The recently developed MIUI 4 ROM offers the Kindle Fire a new and improved Android 4.0 based UI

The guys over at MIUI Forums have built a MIUI 4 ROM that ports ICS to the Kindle Fire. Though it is still a work in progress, it is available to users of the tablet to install and use.

The new ROM has bought the ICS OS to Amazon’s popular Kindle Fire with some improvements. With the Android 4.0 UI comes support for Android Marketplace and for Amazon’s App Store. Of course, to get access to the MIUI 4 ROM, users will need to root their Kindle Fire devices and install a custom recovery application. The link to the ROM is available online from MIUI.

A video uploaded by the developers shows off how well the ICS OS works on the Fire. Every time a new app is added to the tablet, it comes up on the home screen with a big square icon. Widgets and apps are listed on the bottom panel of the device and can be dragged on to the home screen anytime. In fact, notifications and settings can be accessed at the bottom of the screen too; there is no drop down notifications bar. The tablet also supports multiple touch gestures and browser tabs.

Since the ROM is not yet completely developed, it is yet to run a few functions. Talk Android found that features like tethering via USB, hardware accelerated graphics, static wall paper and themes are currently unavailable with the UI.

The Amazon Kindle Fire comes preinstalled with a customized version of Google for Amazon and the MIUI 4 ROM has bought many new features to the tablet. Though already quite good, the new Android 4.0 based UI will hopefully be perfected in the near future and bring the complete ICS experience to Amazon Kindle Fire users.
