Samsung’s new budget phone Galaxy Pop Plus is listed with an online vendor and may launch soon

Though Samsung has not made any official announcement about the release of a new handset in India, the Galaxy Pop Plus S5570i is listed on Flipkart and has fueled speculation of a launch in the near future. The Pop Plus is the successor to Samsung’s popular budget Android phone Galaxy Pop, known as Galaxy Mini abroad.

The Pop Plus seems to be an upgraded version of its predecessor. The Pop’s 600 MHz processor has been replaced by an 832MHz processor in the Pop Plus. Even so, other specs surprisingly remain the same. In fact, the new phone’s OS is listed as Android v2.2 Froyo. Hopefully, Samsung will roll out a Gingerbread update for the device in due course.

Samsung’s new offering comes with a 3.14-inch capacitive QVGA touchscreen with a pixel resolution of 240x320 pixels. The Pop Plus comes with TouchWiz 3.0 and supports Java. It has an internal memory of 164MB which is expandable up to 32GB with a MicroSD card. On purchase, the phone ships with a 2GB memory card.

The new handset offers a variety of connectivity options including support for GPRS, Edge, Wi-Fi, USB, GPS, Bluetooth and 3G. The Pop Plus is equipped with a single 3MP camera with 3x digital zoom and video recording capabilities. It is powered by a 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery and sports FM radio too.

The S5570i is a bar phone with dimensions of 60.6x110.4x12.1mm.  It weighs in at 106.6gm and might be a good buy for those looking for a reasonably priced Android smartphone, but only if it is slated for a Gingerbread update. Samsung will most likely disclose its plans for the new handset in the near future; as of now, Androidos.in found the phone listed for Rs. 8330/- on Flipkart but is currently ‘out of stock’.
