With the divestment of Sony Ericsson complete, all future devices will bear the Sony name

Sony Ericsson, the beloved Japanese brand has finally gotten the nod for the divestment of Sony Ericsson and will now be known as Sony Mobile Communications. Sony bought out Ericsson's shares back in October for €1.05 billion, and the acquisition is finally complete.

The company was born in 2001 from a 50-50 partnership between the two companies. Sony also sent out an email to the users on its mailing list speaking about the changes and what to expect from this new force. Well, it seems like not much will change besides the name, but Sony plans to bring together some major features for its smartphones and tablets.

Post the split, Sony plans to roll out a bunch of smartphones with PlayStation branding to further improve sales. There's the Xperia S already in tow which is an excellent smartphone (on paper). The users with Sony Ericsson smartphones have nothing to worry about, with the company mentioning that it will continue supporting its loyal users.

But all future smartphones will bear the Sony branding, which to be honest will take some getting used to but it has a good ring to it. All eyes will be on MWC now to see if Sony has something new to offer after the split, maybe a tablet or a new smartphone like the Xperia S.
