Motorola has released a detailed plan for upgrading its Android powered tablets and smartphones to the ICS OS. Though the Android 4.0 update is in the development stage for a number of devices and will roll out soon, it is in the planning and evaluation stage for some others. These devices will probably receive the upgrade later in the year or by early next year.
Androidos.in got hold of Motorola’s proposed schedule. Devices that are lined up for the ICS update in Q2 2012 include the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi only, Motorola Razr, Motorola Xoom Family Edition, MT917 and XT928. While the Xoom Wi-Fi and the Razr units in Asia Pacific, China, Japan, Canada, Latin America and EMEA will be updated in this time frame, only those units of MT917 and XT928 in China will receive the OS. The Xoom Family Edition too, will only receive the update in the US.
Asia Pacific, EMEA and Latin America will receive the ICS roll out for the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition by Q3 2012. The ATRIX 2, ATRIX 4G MB860, Motorola XYBOARD 8.2, Motorola XYBOARD 10.1 and Photon 4G will see the upgrade around the same time in the US. The ATRIX 2 will also receive the upgrade in the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions.
Though the ICS update is already in the development stage for the Q2 and Q3 devices, it is still in the planning and evaluation stage for many other Motorola gadgets. According to the company, details about the update for the Droid Bionic, Droid 4, Droid Razr, Droid Razr Maxx, Electrify, Milestone 3, Milestone 3X, Droid 3,Droid X2, Motorola Pro, Admiral and Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi and 3G will follow at a later date.
With many manufacturers waiting in the wings at the upcoming MWC, Motorola is about to face some stiff competition from powerful, fast and improved gadgets. It will do well to upgrade its portfolio to the sophisticated ICS OS as soon as possible.
