Nvidia recently released its fourth quarter report for 2011 where CEO Jen-Hsun Huang spoke to analysts about the company’s future plans. Among other developments, Nvidia announced that it will unveil its Tegra 3 quad-core smartphones at the MWC scheduled to be held in Barcelona at the end of the month. It also said that it will make the devices available for retail soon after.
Nvidia is expected to announce a number of powerful, next generation devices powered by its new and improved Tegra 3 chipset at the congress. Though the names of these devices have not been officially revealed, rumours point to the LG X3, the HTC One X and according to Electronista, a Fujitsu Arrows phone. All of these quad-core devices are believed to run on 1.5GHz processors which clock down a notch when all the cores are in use.
As reported by Reuters, CEO Huang himself confirmed that Tegra 3 phones will be announced at the February congress and will ship just weeks after they are unveiled. Nvidia is hoping to cash in on the post-MWC hype its new devices are expected to create. In fact, Huang is expecting an overall major growth from Tegra 3 devices in the year.
Huang also spoke about a new cellular chipset that Nvidia is working on. Codenamed Grey, it will combine 3G and 4G LTE capabilities into one single chipset. Though no timeline has been confirmed for the launch of the new chip, it will most likely be ready by the latter part of the year.
Nvidia has been facing some tough competition in recent times from competitors like Texas Instruments and Qualcomm. With its new quad-core handsets, it is hoping to steadily get back on top of the game. Stay with us as we bring you breaking news about Nvidia from the MWC in Barcelona!
