RIM is all set to up the PlayBook game with the new and improved 2.0 OS. Among other things, it promises an improved browser, email, contact list and calendar and a remote control feature.

According to Techradar, CEO Thorsten Heins said, ‘we’ve taken our strength in messaging and collaboration and brought that together for a seamless experience in PlayBook OS 2.0, giving users a truly social, intuitive, fun and easy way to connect with their world.’

Under BlackBerry ‘Flow’, new PlayBook apps are integrated in such a way that a user can seamlessly move from an email to details of its sender, to the senders Twitter and Facebook accounts to common acquaintances on LinkedIn.

To navigate from one piece of information to the next, the user doesn’t need to exit one app and enter another. For networking enthusiasts, this is a boon.

BB’s calendar app has had a facelift on the new OS too. On days when a user has a lot on his/her schedule, the calendar shows a larger font in month view. The web browser has been overhauled as well. Browsing is easier and faster and web pages will work on the PlayBook as they do on desktops. The browser will support Flash and will integrate with a number of apps too.

The Cascades look of the OS 2.0 is what makes it stand apart with its 3D animations and transitions. Developers are working to replicate this look on their apps as well, promising new and improved apps to match the OS.

Another unique feature of 2.0 is that Bridge turns a user’s BlackBerry into a remote control for the PlayBook. This is a welcome development, both for work and play.
