LG Optimus Vu: Why this monstrous device deserves a special mention?

The LG Optimus Vu with its gigantic 5-inch display is bound to be a headturner at the upcoming MWC 2012

LG has officially announced its giant Optimus Vu smartphone.

Following closely in the footsteps of ZTE who announced its upcoming Android 4.0 smartphones, LG has also let the cat out of the bag.

Donning a 5-inch screen with a IPS display (1024x768 pixel resolution), the Vu goes head-to-head with Samsung's Galaxy Note.

Talking about the display, LG brings a bright 4:3 aspect ratio which promises to make viewing documents, books, internet and multimedia contents easier.

In addition the IPS display brings the best viewing experience by bringing out the color in its natural state and allows visibility even under bright sunlight.

Even though the Optimus Vu is big it is not heavy on the hands. At 8.5 mm, the Optimus Vu is the slimmest among all LTE phones currently on the market. The device fits ergonomically in your hands, thanks to the exclusive floating mass technology, which gives the device a slimmer appearance than its actual dimensions.

The device also houses a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, 32GM internal memory and a large 2,080 mAh battery, making this monstrous smartphone a force to reckon with.

The LTE-enabled device also supports a unique built-in QuickClip hotkey which allows users to conveniently capture screenshots. You can also scribble and jot notes on the Optimus Vu using your fingers or the rubberdium pen.

The LG Optimus Vu stammers a bit in the OS department. It is quite disappointing to see such a beast being powered by a Android Gingerbread rather than the latest Android 4.0.

The good news is that the update is already in works. At the moment there is no information on the exact roll-out date though. Nor is there much in the way of pricing or availability either.
