ASUS’s media invite to the unveiling of the Padfone features a snapshot of the smartphone

Published on Feb 22, 2012

The Padfone has been in the making for quite a while and tech enthusiasts are eager to get their hands on the completed hardware. ASUS is all set to unveil its next generation device at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and has already sent out invites to its press event.

The invite itself is creating a stir in the tech world since it features a clear image of the smartphone without giving away any details about its specs. ASUS’s latest offering was last displayed in a glass case at the CES 2012 and has been the subject of rumours since then.

The Padfone stands out from its peers with its 10-inch tablet add on device and its ICS OS. Users can access their data and apps on the tablet simply by placing the handset in the provided dock, thanks to Android’s tablet interface.

The tablet lends the phone a bigger screen and extra battery power. According to Android Community, users should ideally be able to use the smartphone to make calls and send text messages even when it is docked.

Comparing the image of the Padfone on ASUS’s invite with what the company displayed at the CES, it looks the phone has lost its capacitive navigation buttons but has retained its 4.3-inch AMOLED display.

ASUS has been working to bridge the gap between the smartphone and the tablet and if the Padfone is anything to go by, it seems to be on the right track. Pricing and availability of the new smart gadget should be revealed at its launch in Barcelona, along with details of its specs. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest on the Padfone with our coverage of the MWC!
