The world is waiting with baited breath for LG to unveil its latest flagship smartphone at the MWC in Barcelona. The word on the internet is that the device, codenamed LG X3, will be given the official name Optimus 4X HD before it is sent out into the retail market.

PocketNow came across the news of the phone’s rebranding. Optimus 4X HD is quite a logical choice for LG’s new smartphone, given that it predecessor was christened Optimus 2X. The Optimus 2X was the company’s first dual-core smartphone and the quad-core Optimus 4X HD takes on where it left off.

LG’s new flagship is all set to give its competition a run for their money with its launch at the MWC at the end of the month. The quad-core device is speculated to run on the Android ICS operating system and to offer an internal memory of 16GB.

Powered by a Tegra 3 processor, it is believed to feature a massive 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 720p and the same IPS LCD technology that is found on the Optimus LTE.

The Optimus 4X HD is also rumoured to feature an 8MP camera and sport the capability to transfer HSPA data at a speed of 21Mbps. Though not much else is known about the device, if the rumours surrounding its launch are to be believed, the Optimus 4X HD packs quite a punch.

From the number of devices lined up for release and from all that’s known about the Optimus 4X HD, it looks like LG is geared up to take the Mobile World Congress by storm. Stay with us as we bring you breaking news from LG it unfolds in Barcelona!
