Amid the nail biting England-India cricket match yesterday, Vodafone mascot ZooZoo announced the launch of Vodafone 3G services. Funnily enough it seems the tariffs were available for the site initially in mumbai but were disabled soon after. What we know about the tariffs for sure is that the 3G services will work in prepaid & postpaid connections.Till the tariffs details are formally launched you can take the time to check out the 3G handset compatibility of your phone. If you are unable to find your handset among those listed under the vodafone 3G services check with your handset manufacturer. Common FAQ's about handset compatibilityDo I need a separate handset to use 3G services?Yes, in order to use 3G services you need to have a handset which is compatible with the Vodafone 3G network, in case your handset is already 3G compatible then you don’t need to purchase a new phone. Different 3G handsets have different speed capabilities, we recommend that you use an HSPA enabled handset for the best experience. How would I know if my handset is 3G compatible or not? When you are in a Vodafone 3G network area & if your handset shows 3G on the top of the screen next to the network signal bars means that your phone is 3G compatible & you can use the services. You must also ensure that the phone settings are not set to ‘2G only’; alternately you can also check on your handset manufacturer website or your device box.If I need a new 3G phone then do I need to purchase it only from Vodafone or any open market handset will also work fine?It is not necessary to purchase a 3G device only from Vodafone; you can buy one from the open handset market but ensure that it is 3G compatible.Do I need a specific type of handset to make a video call or can I use my existing 3G compatible device? In order to make a video call, it is very necessary that your handset has a camera on the front side of the phone facing you & phone screen. These phones normally have dual cameras & are popularly known as dual camera phones. If your handset already has a front top camera then you don’t need a new / separate phone to make video calls.Check out other FAQ's on 3G network, 3G services and more. Also don't forget to register at the vodafone 3G services data plan page to avail promotional offers on the 3G services.
