Apple has announced a new operating system for its iPhone on Thursday. The latest announcement of iPhone OS 4.0 comes in the wake of reports suggesting that the company is also planning to launch iPad Nano in 2011. With the updated iPhone OS 4.0, users can easily swap between open apps, organise apps into separate folders and set up multiple Exchange mail accounts.Apple CEO Steve Jobs said, "We weren't the first to this party but we're going to be the best," said Jobs. "It's really easy to implement multitasking in a way that drains battery life. If you don't do it just right your phone's going to feel sluggish and your battery life is going to go way down."Apple offers new feature to port iBooks to the iPhone from the iPad. It will further facilitate enterprise solutions for better encryption of data in both mail and apps. Other new features of updated iPhone OS 4.0 include social networking platform for games and iAd, an interactive ad feature that will appear in apps.Initially, Apple's iPhone 3GS will be the only device to support multitasking, along with the newest iPod Touch. Reportedly, the multitasking feature will not work with iPhones having less powerful processors. The new iPhone OS 4.0 is slated to be available in the summer that will finally dispel the frequent criticism of the iPhone that the device doesn't support multitasking.
