The competition in the music phone category is set to toughen further as Finnish handset maker Nokia launched its latest model in the XpressMusic phone series, called 5800 XpressMusic. However, the phone priced at Rs 19,999 would be available in the Indian market by January 2009. "Nokia 5800 Xpress Music will be made available in either by December-end or January next year and will be priced at Rs 19,999," Nokia India MD D Shivakumar told reporters here. The company will also launch the beta version of the Nokia Music Store on December 18 this year, while the consumer version will be available in the first quarter of next year. "Mobile music will continue to be a key priority area for Nokia in 2009 and our strategy is aimed at developing the market for mobile music by following a partnership driven model that enriches consumer experience with innovative devices, accessories and local content, Nokia Executive Vice President Anssi Vanjoki said. Nokia Music Store, a part of the OVI, is an online music service that will deliver over a million tracks from global hits to local artists and works with one user interface. There are 11 Nokia Music stores in operation globally. The company has also tied up with international and Indian music companies like Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, EMI, Warner, Tseries, Big Music and Yashraj to source content across regional and vernacular music labels. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic features a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 3.2-inch widescreen display, and a virtual alphanumeric keypad along with a pen stylus for input.
