
RIM partners with Redington for retail sales of BlackBerry phones

Blackberry phones will now be available in the retail market thanks to a partnership between Research In Motion and Redington India

Delhi, January 15 Canadian company Research In Motion (RIM), the makers of BlackBerry phones today announced a collaboration with Redington India, a national level distributor, to establish national retail distribution channels for BlackBerry smartphones. This strategic business initiative will help RIM more effectively tap the fast growing mobile communications market in India, the company said in a statement. As part of the agreement with Redington India, BlackBerry smartphones and service plans from supported carriers will initially be available in retail and modern trade outlets across nine cities: Mumbai, Delhi, NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune and Ahmedabad. However, Redington plans to expand the retail footprint in a phased manner and will offer a wide range of BlackBerry smartphones beginning with the BlackBerry Pearl, the BlackBerry Curve and the BlackBerry Bold smartphone. Commenting on the partnership Mr. Rajesh Khetarpal, Head-Digital Life Style & Telecom SBU, Redington India said, "Through this collaboration, Research In Motion will leverage our professional services and pan-India reach to increase the availability of BlackBerry smartphones across the country." " This collaboration with Redington, together with our strong carrier partnerships and industry leading products and services, will further strengthen our market position and presence in India," said Ms Frenny Bawa, VP, RIM India.
