Android has overtaken Symbian in a poll of the most popular smartphones. Accorsing to Canalys, Android shipments rose to 32.9 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010 compared to 31 million Symbian devices. In other reports, “Google's marketshare surged 615% from 8.7% last year to 33% in 2010, while Microsoft's marketshare fell 20% from 7.2% in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 3.1% in the same period in 2010,” according to Computer Weekly. "2011 is set to be a highly competitive year with suppliers looking to use new technology, such as dual-core processors, NFC and 3D displays to differentiate their products and maintain value," said Chris Jones, Canalys vice-president and analyst.
