The first universal phone chargers and compatible phone devices are expected to arrive soon in 2011

The first universal mobile phone charger will be the offspring of an industry-wide agreement inked in 2009 and it is now getting the nod from the European Commission - believed to be available in Europe in early 2011.Reportedly, major handset manufacturers including Samsung, Apple, Nokia, Research in Motion, Sony Ericsson, Emblaze Mobile, Huawei Technologies, LGE, Motorola Mobility, NEC, Qualcomm, Alcatel, Texas Instruments and Atmel signed an agreement for a standardized phone charger in 2009. Based on a Micros-USB connector, the universal charger will be compatible to the mobile device that are able to get connected to a computer.European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani, Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship urged signatories to begin selling the universal chargers and said, "Now it is time for industry to show its commitment to sell mobile phones for the new charger. The common charger will make life easier for consumers, reduce waste and benefit businesses. It is a true win-win situation."The universal phone chargers will be a welcome product to usher in the new year. It will help reduce the growing e-waste that is accumulating around the globe with discarded phone chargers from a user when he opts for a new device.
