Dell plans to foray into the Indian smartphone segment with launch of new devices

As per a recent ad circulated by the company in all major newspapers inviting "distributors" for their mobile phones, it seems that Dell is soon going to foray into the smartphone market in India. However, the ad does not specify timeframe, so it's still not clear when they plan to officially launch their devices.With intentions to capture a major market share in the mobile handset segment, IT major Dell is planning to introduce its range of smartphones in India. The smartphone segment will be a new addition to company's portfolio and it will face serious competition from the existing market players. "India is one of the key markets for Dell consumers and as we work on the plans to bring the smartphones to this market, we continue to explore various go-to-market options," Dell India General Manager (Consumer) Mahesh Bhalla said.However, specific details about the launch date and the new models were not disclosed. The PC company is seeking channel partners for the distribution and will follow RIM and Apple to the Indian market.It is estimated that the Indian market comprised of about 600 million mobile users by the end of the second quarter with an anticipated growth of about 771 million users by 2013.Update: Dell has now officially unveiled Dell XCD28, XCD35 Android phones in India.
