Japanese tech-giant NEC has launched a new device which, even with Samsung's svelte Galaxy S II on the horizon, looks set to hold the title of worlds thinnest smartphone, measuring a positively skeletal 7.7mm. The device, NEC's catchily monikered MEDIAS E-04C, broke cover this week at a launch event hosted by the manufacturer and its partner, NTT DoCoMo in Tokyo, and it certainly looks to have all the boxes ticked. Nestled beneath its Gorilla Glass covered 4-inch screen you'll find an 800MHz CPU, Wi-Fi, NFC and a 5-megapixel camera, with software duties performed by Android 2.2 (Froyo), with an update to 2.3, Gingerbread, in the pipeline. The emaciated little device goes on sale on March 4th in Japan. We're unsure whether it will reach our sunny shores, but stay tuned for updates. Via AV Watch.
