Microsoft to launch Windows 7 for mobile next year

Steve Ballmer has stated that Microsoft's Windows 7 for mobile platform will be available from next year

Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft has confirmed that version 7 of the Windows Mobile OS will be ready to launch next year. Reports on WMPoweruser.com indicate that Ballmer “clearly stated Windows Mobile 7 will be coming next year” during a conference call. Ballmer apparently also remained steadfast in the fact that Microsoft had no plans to release its own handset any time soon and instead said “it was committed to the licensing model.” No specific time frame was given for the release of Windows 7, and given the length of time 6.5 has been on the horizon we're thinking that the second half of next year will be the earliest it will conceivably make it into the public's hands.
