Apple has unveiled the new iPhone 3G S update with a faster processor, more RAM, on-board compass, and improved camera and video capabilities. The battery life is better, too... Published on Jun 8, 2009 iPhone maker Apple has unveiled a new version of iPhone 3G at the ongoing World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco. The new version called iPhone 3G S comes with a faster processor, has more RAM, on-board compass and packs a much improved camera. The company also reduced the price of its existing iPhone 3G 8GB to $99. The new version iPhone has two variants in terms of memory space, it will be available in 16GB and 32GB versions priced at $199 and $299 respectively. However, it is not yet known when the phone will be made available in India and what would be its price structures. Both are available in black and white but otherwise the exterior is identical to the existing iPhone 3G. Apple said it had increased the RAM and the speed of the processor in the iPhone 3G S which made it up to twice as fast as the previous model when browsing the web or launching and running applications. RAM has doubled to 256MB while the ARM processor has been cranked up to 600Mhz from 412Mhz previously. The iPhone 3G S will also incorporate Apple's latest operating system Snow Leopard which allows cut, copy, paste functionalities for relevant applications. It also features 'Undo' capability means the last function performed can be undone by just shaking the phone. At the same time the battery life of the iPhone 3G S has been given a claimed boost of 20%, taking it to 5 hours of talk time or data use on a 3G connection. Apple has addressed another main criticism of the iPhone by upgrading the camera to 3 megapixels and adding autofocus and auto white balance support. There is no flash however but the low light perfomance has been 'improved'. The iPhone 3G S also supports video records at VGA resolution up to 30 frames per second and comes bundled with some typically Apple-slick video editing and uploading software.
