State-run telecom operator Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) will launch the much-awaited 3G mobile services commercially on February 5. The telco had done the trial launch of the service in December last year. The commercial availability of the service which has been christened MTNL 3G Jadoo, makes MTNL the first operator in India to do so. Other operators like Bharti, Vodafone, Reliance Communications are eagerly awaiting the auction process of 3G spectrum, which has been delayed due to differences between the Department of Telecom (DoT) and the finance ministry over the base price and the number of 3G operators in each circle. 3G services on a mobile phone enable customers to access the Internet and data applications at much higher speed. Mobile users will also get advanced services such as video calls, broadband wireless data, faster online video streaming and a better gaming experience. Currently all mobile services are provided over the second generation (2G) network. US based communication major Motorola is setting up the core network for MTNL for this launch. Initially, services will be launched in central Delhi, including Connaught Place, India Gate, Pragati Maidan, Delhi Gate and Minto Road.
