Nokia Beta Labs announced a new service in India - 'Nokia Listings'. The service is designed for employers and job seekers as well as buyers and sellers, thereby making the process as simple as possible. According to a blog post on Nokia Beta Labs, Nokia emphasized on the fact that about 60% of the hiring and consumer-to-consumer transactions such as apartment rentals, in growing markets like India, occur through word-of-mouth or middlemen who charge huge commission as their fee. Nokia aims to build a digital marketplace with basic mobile phone users using Series 40 handsets, without any GPRS connections. Users can derive many benefits from this service such as job search, buying and selling things on the digital market platform, and accessing local services such as plumber services, driver, auto repairs - by using SMS or GPRS. At present, the service is available in India only without any registration. Nokia has developed a Java application, which is optimized for S40 handsets and can be used for accessing the listings.
