Valtteri Halla of the MeeGo technical steering group says in the "MeeGo Handset Project Day 1" page: The MeeGo project is happy to announce "Day 1" of the MeeGo Handset user experience project. Today, the handset baseline source code is available to the development community. This code is being actively developed as MeeGo 1.1, which is scheduled for release in October. Reportedly, the release features MeeGo APIs and applications allowing access to a status bar, lock screen, application launcher, onscreen keyboard, phone dialer, short message service client, browser, contacts application and photo viewer.The MeeGo developer release features support for a range of Intel Atom-based handsets and the Maemo-based Nokia N900 devices.You can check out a video of MeeGo in action below: An open software platform hosted by the Linux Foundation, which debuted in February, MeeGo platform will be released in October and the first MeeGo-based devices are expected to be launched shortly after that.
