Sony Ericsson is planning a three-pronged assault on India's smartphone market by launching the Satio, Aino and Yari handsets

Published on Mar 17, 2011

Sony Ericsson has launched three new high-spec smartphones in India this week - the curiously-named Satio, Aino and Yari. The move is part of Sony's global drive to push into the smartphone market that has been booming in the wake of the Apple iPhone. It also anticipates the growth of 3G in India over the next two years as all the phones have full 3G capabilities The Sony Ericsson Satio is the flagship smartphone in the range and is priced accordingly at Rs 35,950. For that you get a ground-breaking 12.1 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, a 3.5-inch, 16:9 touchscreen and a raft of multimedia features. It runs the Symbian OS as its operating system The mid-range Aino costs Rs 28,950 and weighs in with wi-fi, a slide-out keypad and touchscreen and can connect and swap media with a computer or PlayStation 3 using Sony's MediaGo technology. The Sony Ericsson Yari may be the 'bottom' of the range but it still costs a hefty Rs 16,950. Its unique selling proposition is the gimmicky-sounding ability to use 'gestures' to play games without touching the handset. More practically it has a 5-megapixel camera, accelerometer and 3G connectivity. We will have full previews of all three phones on Know Your Mobile India over the next week. Watch this space...
