Vodafone is all set to launch the most affordable Vodafone 150 mobile phone as low as Rs. 700 in the Indian market

Couple of months back, Vodafone announced its most affordable handsets to date at the MWC 2010. It promised about the world's cheapest mobile phones Vodafone 150 and Vodafone 250 priced at $15 and $20, respectively. Well, it seems now that soon India is going to have one of these handsets as Vodafone 150 mobile phone is going to be available in the market in the coming days.The price war for low-cost mobile handsets has now entered a new level with the recent announcement of Vodafone's Rs. 700 mobile phone in India. However, there are few handset makers who have announced the same but haven't delivered as yet. First, it was Gee Pee mobiles who surprised everyone with its announcement to launch Gee Pee colour mobile phones priced at Rs 500 in India. And later, Nokia joined the bandwagon with its proposed plan to introduce Nokia handsets @ Rs 500 in India. Marten Pieters, MD and CEO, Vodafone Essar, said, "The average user in rural India does not spend as much as mobile consumers in Delhi or in Mumbai. Though the majority still make a revenue stream for mobile operators, the idea is to make mobile phones affordable and achievable for everyone," he said.Vodafone is set to launch its Rs 700 ($16) mobile phone to target the rural India. But the best part is that this ultra cheap Rs. 700 Vodafone mobile phones will target not only the rural areas, but it will be available across the country. As earlier told, designed and developed for emerging markets, Vodafone 150 mobile phone will enable users for money transfers and bill payments. The Vodafone 150 will offer excellent voice and SMS services to the users. Imbedded with support for mobile payment services, Vodafone 150 will be equipped with a mini USB connector, alarm clock, a torch, calculator and a currency converter. The other key features of the handset include 2 embedded games, memory for up to 100 entries in phonebook plus SMS storage, 500mAh battery with standby time up to 400 hours and talk time up to 5 hours.
