
Nokia India chalks out new plans to face 3G challenge

India is gearing up for 3G services and market leader Nokia has put some innovative strategies in place to cope with the upcoming challenges

World's largest handset manufacturer Nokia today said it will bring plethora of new services like music online, location based services (LBS) and other applications on its upcoming mobiles which will be launched in India very soon. Nokia India's announcement clearly indicates that the Finnish giant is gearing up to face the forthcoming challenges of the next generation mobile services or 3G services. "We are moving away from just devices to devices plus services plus solutions. With the 3G mobile services set to make advent by the middle of next year, we feel that revenue from non-voice services is bound to increase significantly," Nokia India's VP and General Manager D Shivakumar told in a media briefing in Chennai. The company is also planning heavily to work with Value Added Services (VAS) players to bring out the best non-voice solutions for the Indian consumers. In fact, Nokia called upon Indian mobile and web application developers to create innovative consumer applications exclusively for the upcoming handset N97.
