Swissvoice enters the Indian handset market with a new range of budget phones

Swissvoice, a European mobile handset manufacturer, made its entry into the highly competitive Indian handset segment, by introducing 5 new phones. The new mobile phones would cost between Rs 2,999 to Rs. 5,899.The company intends to further expand its product offering to about 12 handsets by the end of 2010. The market share of major handset makers in India such as Samsung, Nokia and LG is being constantly affected by the emergence of domestic brands such as Zen, Karbonn, Spice and Micromax, which offer feature-packed phones at much cheaper prices. It is estimated that about 9-10 million mobiles are sold in India every month. Swissvoice India, which forms a part of the Switzerland-based Swissvoice group, voiced plans to sell about 30,000 handsets in India every month. Swissvoice India Director Dollar Gulati told reporters "Initially, we will target the youth segment in the tier II and III cities in northern India. From next month, we will launch the handsets in southern states".
