IsatPhone Pro is developed by Sasken for Inmarsat, the leader in global mobile satellite communications services. The company claims that the first call using this handset was completed from Hawaii and is set for a planned global launch in June 2010.Offering satellite telephony, IsatPhone Pro will feature Bluetooth for handsfree use, voicemail, and text and email messaging. Location data will also be available to the user to look up or send in a text message. This robust satellite phone will come with the ultimate combination of global coverage, clear voice quality, reliable network connection, long battery life and easy to use features."One of the most important elements of the IsatPhone Pro development has been the R&D, and Sasken has successfully delivered on all key milestones in the last 13 months of this engagement," said Helen Stalker, Commercial Director of Global Satellite Phone Services at Inmarsat. "We are all looking forward to the phone’s launch planned for June," she added.Sasken's IsatPhone is the first handset to be purpose-built for the Inmarsat network. The satellite phone is primarily designed for professional users in the government, media, aid, oil and gas, mining and construction sectors.IsatPhone Pro promises to deliver the best performance over the world’s most advanced mobile satellite network. It will be available on a global basis over the three Inmarsat-4 satellites, which have an operational lifetime into the 2020s.
