AKAI launches 10 handsets in India

AKAI makes an entry in the mobile handset market by introducing 10 handsets in the Indian market

Japan-based consumer electronics brand AKAI made its debut in the Indian mobile phone segment with the launch of 10 new handsets. All the models fall in the dual SIM category. These mobiles come with a full touch 3D user interface (UI) and offer E-book compatibility to the users. In addition, the phone also enables the user to connect with friends easily through the social networking sites. Pranay Dhabhai, managing director, AKAI India, said, "We are expecting an overall turnover of Rs.435 crore by July 2011 and mobile sales are expected to contribute around 40 per cent of the total revenues with targeted monthly sales of one lakh handsets from October onwards". We hope to become a prominent player in the Rs. 700 billion mobile handset market in the coming years."The company reports reveal that its products are available in 8,000 retail shops and has plans to increase the number of outlets to 20,000 by the end of September this year. The new AKAI mobile phones specifically target the youth segment and fall in the estimated price range of about Rs. 1,895 to Rs. 7,995.
