Opera has released a new beta version of it's mobile browser, bringing with it a Turbo mode for zippy browsing, reduces bandwidth consumption of up to 80%

Opera Software has released the beta version of its latest mobile operating system, Opera Mobile 9.7. The enhancements include the Turbo mode optimised for slower connections. If you're a non-3G equipped surfer, or perhaps even if you are, you might be interested to hear that the new 9.7's Turbo mode works by compressing the data via proxy servers. It then sends the resulting much-reduced package back to the handset. The company claims that this can improve page loading times by up to 80%, although the current release is still very much a beta, with the Turbo option reportedly causing a few conflicts and bugs in its current state. The other advantage of the 9.7 beta over previous iterations is the inclusion of the Opera Presto 2.2 rendering engine. Opera claims that page loading times are improved by up to 25% over the 9.5 version. Amidst these claims of better rendering and compatibility, it's a shame that there's still no Flash support.
