BlackBerry is looking to setup a plant in India

Published on Mar 28, 2011

Following suit of other mobile phones manufacturers like Nokia, Samsung and other global brands, Blackberry is planning to set up a manufacturing facility in India.

While Blackberry has declined to give official investment figures, it is likely to invest around $200—250 million to set up the plant and more during the year.

The facility location has not been finalised but the main contenders include Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. If RIM decides to plant itself, it will be it’s first manufacturing facility in the Asia-Pacific region.

Blackberry has also sealed it lips regarding the products and mobile models that will be produced at this facility.

The company recently launched Blackberry PlayBook. The tablet is priced at $ 499 and above depending on the storage capacity and is yet to be launched in India.
