It's official. The fate of Symbian has been decided. In an open letter to the Symbian community, Nokia has confirmed that there will be no more Symbian-powered handsets post 2012.
In the letter, Nokia stated, "“Our intention is that when users come to the end of the natural lifecycle of their Symbian device they will make the change to a Nokia Windows Phone device and so it would not be in our interests to undermine their Nokia smartphone experience," Said Purnima Kochikar in the Nokia letter.
Sadly for Symbians the days are numbered and the developers and users will have to move on to either the Windows Phone 7 platform or Android.
The letter also dispels any doubts regarding Nokia and Windows Phone 7’s future.
