Microsoft is currently working at adding a near field communication also known as NFC to its Windows Phone 7.
Looking at google's recent announcement of introduing a NFC payment solution, with floating rumors of iphone 5 also including this technology, it seems that NFC will be a 2011 trend.
What NFC does is that it allows you to make micro payments at retail stores, e-ticketing among others. While none of the current Windows Phone 7 device have NFC integrated, it looks like the manufactuers are including the technology on newer phones. One of the key players in this revolution will be but offcourse, Nokia.
The Finnish manufacturer who is promising to bring contactless systems to its future devices says that NFC will become a standard feature of all its devices, including Symbian handsets.
Microsoft currently owns 14 patents related to NFC technology and most of them were granted on March 22.
This is one technology that we are definitely looking forward to test out.
