BlackBlerry faces Zeus Trojan threats
Published on Apr 11, 2011
Zeus Trojan malware variants are now attacking the BlackBerry OS. Computer security firm Trend Micro is finding it difficult to identify the detected Trojan, BBOS_ZITMO.B.
Patrick Estavillo, an Analyst at Tend Micro, said “As Zeus variant on the desktop, these malicious programs do not change the face of the device. These malicious programs can remove themselves from the list of applications and cannot be detected".
Once Zeus is installed on to the BlackBerry handset, the phone immediately sends a confirmation message to the administrator, which ultimately allows the administrator to control the other party.
Zeus Trojan is basically made to monitor the users’ personal information, especially when users transact online banking.
Trend Micro country manager for India and SAARC, Amit Nath stated recently, "As more users access internet from expanding pool of devices, web based threats will continue in size. The Growth of Smartphones and faster data speeds will also increase the possibilities of infection. With the growing diversity of operating systems among companies, as well as the growing use of mobile devices, cybercriminals should have a very profitable 2011."
He further added "Their tactic will be to put a new spin on social engineering by way of malware campaigns, by bombarding recipients with emails that drop downloaders containing malware. All this will largely be made possible because of the Internet."
Earlier the variants of the Zeus Trojan have also been detected for the Symbian and Windows Mobile operating systems. Now it is exhibiting the similar kind of behaviour for BlackBerry smartphones.
If you are using a smartphone then just be more cautious, while installing any application or clicking on any link that is sent from untrusted sources.
