Nokia has launched its latest Symbian based devices, Nokia X7 and Nokia E6. With speculations over the death of Symbian hovering for a while it seems Nokia is proving everybody wrong.

May be all is not over with the Symbian. Atleast till 2012, when Symbian will be dead but until then it is very much business as usual. Nokia infact expects to ship 150 million Symbian handsets this year.

So what of this Symbian update? Well, It’s called Anna and brings with it a new portrait Qwerty keyboard, improved Ovi Maps as well as some much needed speed optimisations.

So what can users expect from Symbian Anna? Well, as we said there’s a new portrait Qwerty keyboard and improved Ovi Maps as well as a vastly improved browser and UI experience. Users can now flick between homescreens at a rapid rate, for instance. Additions to Ovi Maps include: public transportation routing, predictive search and social networking functionality.

There has also been some security and messaging improvements too, which will no doubt please the enterprise community.

In terms of looks, it really is more of the same from Nokia but this should please the purists as Nokia’s E-Series of devices, while being quite niche, is very popular with the people that use it.

Specs wise, the Nokia E6 is pretty impressive. For instance, it packs a massive 1500mAh battery, 680MHz CPU, 8-megapixel camera and will support 720p video recording. There’s also a front-facing camera for video calling – although we’re not sure on the resolution of this one just yet.

All in all Nokia E6 is quite an attractive device which packs in all the E-series features consisting of bigger battery, improved display and better camera abilities to name a few. Confirmed specs for the Nokia X7 include: 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, 680MHz CPU, 4-inch OLED ClearBlack display, HD video recording, and 256MB RAM / 1GB ROM, 8GB memory card .

Symbian Anna, which is quite an update by Nokia standards, will be coming to the Nokia C7, Nokia E7, Nokia C6-01 and the Nokia N8.

With Symbian gaining back momentum, let's say it is living its life to the fullest.
