Nokia has plans to launch budget dual SIM phones

Published on Apr 18, 2011

The Finnish manufacturer, Nokia is all set for a fierce battle in the Indian mobile phone market. Still one of the most trusted brands in India, if not that popular now, Nokia has been struggling lately to gain its lost grounds and revive its market share globally.

The company has suffered badly in India too, especially due to the rise of the local brands, who offer feature rich devices at extremely cheap prices, catering to the needs of the local market.

To deal with this, now Nokia is planning to offer low cost dual SIM handsets to the Indian customers. This may help the brand to capture more market share against the local brands like Micromax, Lava, Karbonn and Spice offering budget phones comprising excellent features.

D Shivakumar, MD and VP for Nokia India stated that, "We will launch several low-cost dual SIM handsets with features like camera and radio that are much in demand."

According to a report from Business Standard, Nokia is trying hard to regain the trust of Indian customers, as it still remains the most recognized brand with 56% top of mind recall in India.

With the new budget dual SIM phones launch, Nokia plans to compete with the top brands like Apple, Samsung, HTC and BlackBerry, while at the same time it has to deal with the local brands providing copy of the popular mobile phones at comparatively lower price.

The brand is now going to set up two new business units in India. One of them for smartphones and the other one to manufacture handsets focused over mass-market devices.
