What iOS 5 is still missing?

Published on Jun 7, 2011

Apple has now unveiled its new iOS 5 to the world. It was annonced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event, which attracted a huge gathering from all across the globe.

The company announced its new releases and demonstrated several interesting features built around these upgrades. Some of the prominent features of iOS 5 included Notifications, Newsstand, tabbed browsing in Reminders, quick access to the Camera app, Safari, a better image editor, integration with Twitter, iMessaging, and wireless syncing.

Other than these smart updates, the iOS 5 boasts of around 200 new features for this new OS users.

Despite all these tweaks to the iOS 4, we still found some missing features that, if added, would have an icing to the cake.

Facebook integration

Apple announced Twitter integration in its core iOS apps, which allows the users to send tweets directly from those apps. However, it is still lacking the Facebook integration, which a number of people might prefer. After all, Facebook is still one of the most popular social networking sites for smartphone or internet users around the globe.

FaceTime over 3G

We were a bit inquisitive to hear something about FaceTime during the iOS 5 announcement. Alas, nothing of that sort happened. One of the missing features - that everyone would have loved to see - is certainly FaceTime over 3G instead of just Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, there was no word on this as well.

Native voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation

It is an attribute that has been desired by the users of iPhone, which we have not yet heard. Similar to Google's Android-based gadgets which offer voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation through Google Maps, this feature is still not avaiable on the new OS. It is one of the main reasons why numerous users opt for an Android Phone in place of an iPhone.

Widgets

Some users also find the widgets features in Android devices more interesting as it shows all the information at a quick view. However, iOS 5 offers only stock and weather related information in the notifications drop-down. It was the reason some of the iPhone users were expecting to have lock-screen or home-screen widgets, from this new operating system.

Application trials

One of the most strange things is still the lack of trial period for an app before you buy it from the App Store. Sometimes you don't find an app so interesting as you have thought while buying it, then you don't have any option as you won't get refund. Apple should offer a grace period to the users who are buying apps, during which they can return the app for a full or partial refund. While on the other hand, its biggest competitor, Google's Android offers a 15-minute trial period to the customers.

We just hope Apple may take some cue from the users perspective and integrate these features in its next update, sometimes in future.
