Nokia to unveil its 'market disrupting device'- Will it be N9?

Published on Jun 16, 2011

There is a air of excitement surrounding Nokia this month. The Finnish company recently reached a settlement over their ongoing patent license row with Apple. Now there is more exciting news coming from the Nokia stable. The company is expected to unleash what it terms as a “new market disrupting device” next week.

The news of this expected launch comes via iTWire who have reported receiving an invitation from Nokia Australia for an announcement and demo of this new device on June 21, 2011. The demo is expected to follow company’s head honcho, Stephen Elop's keynote speech from the Nokia Connection 2011 event in Singapore. Held in conjunction with the Communic Asia 2011, the Nokia Connection website revealed that the event will see "latest and newest devices and services to customers". It further pointed out that this year along with the latest suite of mobile devices, the event will also highlight Nokia's future ecosystem with developers.

Elop had on a earlier occasion mentioned MeeGo as being their “future disruption in mobile ecosystem”, so it is quite likely that Nokia's speculated device will be MeeGo powered.

According to PocketNow the device in question is Nokia N9, successor to the highly successful Nokia N8. Earlier this year, the N9 specs were leaked online to everyone's delight. Featuring an Intel 1.6 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 200 MHz GPU with 512MB RAM, N9 also comes equipped with a 480 x 854 pixel display, 12 mega-pixel camera, full slider qwerty keyboard and amazing connectivity options. The N9 specs are infact so spectacular that it is touted as the "real treat in the smartphone world".

Whether or not June 21 is the launch pad for Nokia N9, we atleast hope to see several Window Phone devices.

In February, Nokia- Microsoft partnership turned heads. The company which will be shipping Nokia smartphones loaded with Windows will see its first Nokia Windows Phone go on sale later this year.

All seems well at the Nokia at the moment and if N9 manages to deliver what it promises, could it signal the resurrection of Nokia?
