Nokia reveals its marketing strategy for The first WP7 handset
Published on Jun 20, 2011
Nokia is currently going through a tough time with the company’s shares falling down considerably. But the company is trying all it can to get back into the game with OS updates for the Symbian platform. Symbian Anna has been formally announced by Nokia which will be first seen on the Nokia E6, which Nokia India along with other European contemporaries put up for pre order some days ago. We are not sure if this would bring Nokia back into the game, but it should help nevertheless.
Also interesting is the fact that Nokia would be launching Windows Phone 7 handsets under its brand name. And if reports are to be believed, Nokia could permanently switch to making WP7 devices by ditching Symbian. But those are just rumors as of now and have not been confirmed yet, so we have to take that with a pinch of salt.
The launch of the first WP7 handset by Nokia is expected sometime during the end of this year or in other words during Q4. Talks have already begun on what the device would look like and how it would perform.
Expectations are very high, as with any new launch and it seems like Nokia will be taking inspiration from Apple, who create a sense of curiosity and hype before launching any new product.
A Nokia representative speaking to a renowned website said – "The iron shutters are down around development – it’s “Apple-style” secrecy right now," suggesting at a secretive nature of marketing for the WP7 line of devices. Another employee stated that if they could replicate the hype about the first Windows Phone, like Apple does with the iPhone, they could reach far out to the customers.
It is too premature to say that it would work, but everybody is a bit excited to see how the first Nokia WP7 device would fair (us included). It is expected of Nokia to shed some light on the matter during the Nokia Connection event which is to be held tomorrow in Singapore. We hope that Nokia would take the curtains off the “market disrupting device” that the company has been talking about since quite some time.
It is not the end of the road for Symbian yet; there are a bunch of new Symbian running devices to be launched. And with the company already talking about the successor to the Anna update, known as Belle, we think Symbian might just make it through this time. Nokia claims that if users love Android, they would certainly love Symbian Belle. This year seems to be one of the busiest for Nokia, let’s hope it ends well. But Nokia cannot rest on its past successes and expect things to work out magically, something needs to be done.
