Published on Jun 20, 2011
Held in conjunction with CommunicAsia 2011, the Nokia Connection 2011 will take place in Singapore tomorrow, June 21. This year Nokia Connection event will be different from its past events. What leads us to suspect this is Nokia VP of Sales for SEAP, Neil Gordon. Nokia Conversation recently uploaded a youtube video of Gordon talking about the Nokia Connection event where he emphasized on "showcasing of news devices" and towards the end dropped a hint of a major "global launch" and teased the viewers by adding that "you will be very excited about the news coming out in the next 72 hours".
So, what should Nokia fans and the world expect at the Nokia Connection 2011:
Nokia's "market disrupting device"
Yes that is what they refer their next product as a "market disrupting device". Nokia's mobile strategy has been geared towards innovations and developments and in that sense something that disrupts the existing equation is the only hope that will help Nokia outshine its competitors. But what is this device? PocketNow speculates that the device is Nokia N9, successor to the highly successful Nokia N8. Featuring an Intel 1.6 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 200 MHz GPU with 512MB RAM, N9 comes packed with a 480 x 854 pixel display, 12 mega-pixel camera, full slider qwerty keyboard and amazing connectivity options. There is more to N9 specs which have not been revealed but apparently they are so super-fantastic that the device is called upon as the"real treat in the smartphone world".
Nokia Windows Phones
According to IDC, Microsoft based Nokia Windows Phone have the potential to turn the tide and overtake both iOS and BlackBerry OS by the year 2015. It therefore did not come as a surprise that Windows Phones have been scheduled to launch in 6 countries. The launch was eminent but we were quite surprised at the proximity of the "news" with the Nokia Connection 2011. We are a little sad though that India didn't feature in the list of 6 countries but hopefully we will get around to that soon. According to allaboutphones.nl, Nokia Windows Phones will be entering markets around the end of this year. Windows Phones top our list of devices likely to make an appearance tomorrow.
Nokia Series 40 phone
This recent leak made us turn our heads. Nokia Series 40 mobile phones were leaked recently, quite unexpectedly. Packed with 1GHz powerful processors, Series 40 operating system and a Black Display Delete, Nokia Series 40 mobile phones are rumored to be Nokia's first mobile phone including a 1GHz processor. A Argentina-based mobile phones leaked this information. While the information has been removed from the net the retweets and screenshots continue to remain. This action of removing tweets could be a indication that the rumors are true. What we don't understand is why Nokia decided to choose the Series 40 OS, instead of a recent symbian OS - maybe there will be some room for explanation at the event.
Nokia Near- Field Communication based phone
After Google's wallet now SE Xperia phones are following similar suite by introducing NFC technology. In such a scenario how can Nokia which has patented technologies, SIM-based near-field communication (NFC) not take over from the rivals. Elop had argued how Nokia's NFC technology will make its handsets stand out from rivals, and would could be a perfect platform to unravel the beast than when the whole world is watching.
Nokia Tablet
Well this is also one of the rumors doing rounds, after all how long can Nokia deter from joining the race specially at a time when almost every big manufacturer has a tablet. You have Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Blackberry Playbook, Motorola Xoom, HTC Flyer, Apple iPad 2 and we are quite certain that more will be added to the list going forwards. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop did mention in April that he wanted Nokia to produce something that would differentiate it from the competitors rather “be the 201st tablet on the market that you can’t tell from all of the others." Could Nokia unleash the unexpected - a Nokia Tablet.
Nokia's Concept phone with Graphene
Technology and innovation have been synonymous with Nokia. Remember the Nokia Morph Concept Phone which was introduced way back in 2008? The super cool future material behind this is
Graphene. Nokia Blog defines it as "an allotrope of carbon and its 2D structure measures just one atom thick. While being thin, it’s the strongest material ever tested, having a breaking strength 300 times greater than steel and is also the lightest material ever, best intrinsic conductor and super-flexible, too. It’s predicted to replace silicon as the base for all electronics." Nokia promises to bring some exciting devices with this future changing material. Who knows it may decide to give us a glimpse.
So, those are the potential suspects, but we will have to just wait in anticipation for the next several hours to see what will be big release from the Nokia stable. You can stay tuned with the big and happening news at the event through our Nokia Connection 2011 live blog.
