Nokia to transfer its employees to Accenture

Published on Jun 23, 2011

With Nokia making the transition from Symbian to Windows Phone 7, it seems like an era is about to end. The era of Symbian we mean. But we could see the platform for some more time after all. Nokia is making some employee transfers to well-known out sourcing company Accenture, which will be looking after the management of Symbian till the year 2016.

This deal was announced by Nokia a couple of months ago in April, and will result in the transfer of about 2,800 employees of Nokia from countries like India, Finland, China, UK and the U.S. Nokia confirmed the finalization of the deal yesterday.

The transferred staff will then start working on the development of the Symbian platform with Accenture. So the staff will be relocated to new locations, which should be quite tough on them. Nokia however mentions that the employees need not be disheartened about the transfer.

The company in a statement said – “As we move our primary smartphone platform to Windows Phone, we will look to explore potential opportunities to tap this talent pool as they develop and expand their knowledge and capabilities beyond Symbian."

As per this deal, Accenture will also be Nokia’s preferred supplier for the WP7 devices. Accenture can benefit greatly with the work force they acquire from Nokia, and also work with the company for the improvement and development of the Symbian platform as well as the Symbian platform.

This is really good news for Symbian lovers, who thought Nokia would dump Symbian resulting in the end of the platform. This deal seems like an effort by Nokia to keep the Symbian sphere alive.

But will this deal turn out to be successful? Well, we’re certainly optimistic. In the meanwhile, CEO of Accenture’s Communications and High Tech group, Mr Marty Cole said – “We look forward to partnering with Nokia as they continue to support Symbian and transition to the Windows Phone ecosystem.”
