Will TouchPad tablet dethrone iPad?

Published on Jul 5, 2011

Remember us telling you about the "iPad killer" tablet? Well HP's TouchPad tablet which claims that it will dethrone Apple's mighty iPad has been launched. Apart from Apple, TouchPad now also faces stiff competition from a host of other tablets which have been launched in the Indian market notably the Samsung Galaxy Tab, BlackBerry PlayBook, Motorola Xoom, Acer iconia among others.

Creation of the leading PC maker, HP TouchPad boasts of impressive specs. Equipped with a 9.7-inch vibrant display and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, the tablet comes with both front- and rear-facing cameras. Running on a webOS by Palm which HP took over last year for a whopping amount of $1.2 billion, the tablet at present is available in US for $499.99 for a 16GB Wi-Fi model and $599.99 for a 32GB Wi-Fi model.

The tablet is expected to be released in Britain, Ireland, France, Germany and Canada and later on in Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore.

Eric Cador, Head of Europe was quoted by Telegraph as saying earlier, "In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one, we call it number one plus." He further emphasized that HP can win where rivals haven't because the company “plays in both the consumer and business and world". He believes that what is important is to  move the focus from just technology to the user experience and examine how does the user respond when he sees the tablet.

The TouchPad gets a brownie point from iPad for its Adobe's Flash video format. Designed to be integrated with your webOS phone or used individually, TouchPad interestingly comes with a print compatibility feature which allows you to wirelessly print emails, documents or photos. Also the HP Synergy feature allows users to log in effortlessly into their Facebook, Google, Microsoft Exchange, LinkedIn and Yahoo!

There is no official word as of now when the tablet will be launched in India, but we hope hopefully soon.
