The globally renowned mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB is partnering with China Mobile Holdings Ltd to produce smartphones that support China's domestic fourth-generation telecommunications technology, according to a recent statement of Sony Ericsson's global president.
Bert Nordberg, president and chief executive officer of Sony Ericsson Mobile, told media that the mobile phones manufacturing giant wants to work on the time division long-term evolution (TD-LTE) technology, which is going global.
Moreover, the operators in countries like Japan, India and the United States have already adopted this new technology. Nordberg also told China Daily in Beijing that "it will be beneficial to work closely with partners in China to develop (the TD-LTE handset), and then we will have the opportunity to export it to other markets."
He also added, Sony Ericsson is likely to introduce its first LTE mobile phone to the market next year, when the company is expecting that 4G chipsets will become more cost-competitive.
Magnus Ahlqvist, president of Sony Ericsson China, said that the TD-LTE gadgets are expected to be developed by the company in it in a new research and development (R&D) centre in Beijing.
Norberg also said that, Sony Ericsson wants to become the world's leading supplier of Android running smartphones. To achieve this goal, company has to be the leader in China that has largest population of mobile phone users in the world with 900 million mobile users.
