Motorola Xoom price cut fuels speculation about the launch of the next Motorola tablet
Is Motorola preparing to launch Xoom 2?
Published on Jul 7, 2011
Touted as the world’s first device powered by Android 3.0 Honeycomb, Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi and 3G variant tablets were officially released in India last month. Sporting a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM, front-facing and rear-facing cameras and the latest Google Mobile services on a 10.1-inch HD display, Xoom promised to deliver exceptionally fast performance and give a taste of unique user experience through Honeycomb.
Offered in two variants namely the XOOM Wi-Fi version and 3G, the tablets were pegged at Rs 32,990 for Wi-Fi and 3G for Rs 39,990. While the prices of these tablets remain high in India, we hear that Motorola has slashed its Xoom Wi-Fi price to $499 (Rs 19,000) from $500 in US.
While it is quite disappointing news for new Xoom owners in india, the news doesnot come as a surprise ( we do hope though that this price cut would trickle down to us too!). With tablet competition growing fierce with each passing day, motorola's move some claim to be justified while other rumor mongers indiacte that the company is just prepping grounds for its next release.
Rumor mill has it that the company is gearing to launch its next tablet a Xoom 2 or Xoom 4G LTE. A picture from wirelessgoodness.com has surfaced sporting what appears to be the next Motorola tablet design. According to the drawing the said tablet would measure 259x166, slightly longer than the original Xoom. Just making a lighter and thinner tablet would not differentiate motorola's next tablet so we are hoping that the company is looking to infuse some high-end specs like a NVIDIA’s Kal-El quad-core processor.
Earlier in June a leaked video floated on the web, which later Verizon admitted to being the Xoom 4G. At this point we are hearing rumors from all the sides, some dubbing the device as Xoom 2 while others vouching it to be Xoom 4G.
The company which became the talk of the town with its Xoom back in January, fizzled out after being knocked off by newer, thinner and cheaper tablets. Will Motorola's next tablet be a game changer for the company - we will have to wait and watch.
