Spice slated to launch MI 720 tablet next month

The speculations surrounding the Spice tablet has been there for some time. The company was supposed to make a debut in the tablet market with its MI 700 Android tablet this month. However the recent news while confirming the Indian mobile manufacturers intention to join the tablet race brings more good news. According to reports a new and improved tablet Spice MI 720 will replace MI 700.
According to Mobile Indian, the Spice MI 700 is already available in Malaysia. Launched in October 2010 through Spice groups Malaysian subsidiary CSL, the MI 700 Droidpad measures 179.4 x 110 x 11.5mm and is equipped with a 800 x 480 pixel 7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen and supports a regular-sized SIM card.
Integrated with a Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset, MI 700 runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and supports GSM/Edge/UMTS (3G), HSDPA (3.5G) networks with WiFi (802.11 b/g). Strapped with two camera's - a primary 3 megapixel camera and a secondary front facing VGA camera, DroidPad is equipped with Bluetooth v2.1 with EDR support. MI 700 comes with 512 MB of ROM and 512 MB of RAM, and the ability to support a microSD card up to 32 GB. Spice Mi-700 also supports tethering and comes with WiFi hotspot through which you can share your 3G network with up to eight other devices.
Preloaded with search, gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, calendar and google voice and over thousands of apps in Android market - tablets lovers will never run out of fun things to do.
One of the strong point of the tablet is its battery power at 3240 mAh, which beats most of its current competition who hover around 1500 mAh.
So, what will the new and improved version of Spice Mi-720 bring for indian consumers?
There are speculations that Spice Mi-720 will run on Android Gingerbread OS. While a Honeycomb would have been highly desirable, we believe to keep the cost low Spice will be skipping it altogether. Also the Malaysian version of Spice Mi-700 has a 600 MHz application processor, which doesn't stand much chance against the presently popular 1 GHz plus processor. We are hoping that the company will meet the tablet lovers midway, by atleast boosting the processor speed to 800 MHz.
Pricing is another area of concern. Even though Spice is planning to price the tablet under Rs 20,000, it can be beaten down with competitive pricing from its rivals. We are aware that MSI is gearing up to launch tablets boasting amazing specs for Rs. 11,999 and with other manufacturers like Motorola Xoom slashing prices, it will not be a easy win for Spice.
