Nokia tops the list in the Top 25 handset hotlist
Published on Jul 11, 2011
A recent survey conducted by Mobile Indian showed Nokia mobile phones taking a lead in "The Handset Hotlist' for july 2011. Securing 12 spots out of a total of 25 hot seats, the Nokia handsets proved once again that they do rule the hearts and mind of the Indian consumers.
Giving insights into consumer preferences, the survey was based on the web browsing preference of more than 6.7 lakh unique visitors who visited the site in June 2011. Among the top 25 hot handsets, Nokia C5-03 (Rs 8,600) took the lead followed by Nokia C6. Squeezed between Nokia X7 and Nokia X3-02 in the 3rd and 5th position was Samsung Galaxy Ace. Samsung Corby, Samsung Galaxy indulge, Micromax A70, Nokia Oro, Micromax X560 also figured among the top 10 list of mobile phones.

Nokia's dominant position in the survey contradicts reports of falling favors among Indian consumers. The brand it seems continues to enjoy trust and loyalty of the consumers. Second to Nokia, Samsung handsets ranked high among preferred choices of mobile phones.
The Mobile Indian, director Sreekant Khandekar said, "this is a very exciting pack of information, the most comprehensive one publicly available on what the consumer wants."
Interestingly enough according to the survey barring Micromax none of the other domestic players like Lava, Karbonn, Spice made the cut. Khandekar explains this trend. "Buyers of handsets marketed by Indian players, who usually make low-cost mobile phones, tend to seek information from the dealer rather than surf for information online. BlackBerry is a notable absentee too, probably because the models are few and potential buyers of the brand know what they want."
Another interesting highlight was that the consumer value brand and quality to price. Most of the top 20 handsets, baring Nokia Oro which ranks No 9 and cost Rs 50,000 are priced below Rs 10,000. As more budget smartphones make their way to India, other manufacturers will have to deliver the best for less.
