We know Microsoft is becoming focussed at recapturing the mobile phones market share which is currently dominated by Android and iOS operating systems.
The latest news we hear about the company further seals its determination in becoming mobile market leader. It seems that the company has filed a patent application for a dual screen mobile device, which may not sounds like a big news to you if you have heard about the Kyocera Echo, but then the company has given it a personal twist.
This dual screen mobile device apparently comes with a detachable display which can be held apart and merged in depending on the users liking.
The patent application gives a little insight into the device:
"In a closed configuration of the mobile device, the first display is exposed and the second display is hidden. In an open configuration, both displays are exposed. In a detached configuration, the second device is separated from the first device and the second device can operate as a mobile phone handset. The separated first and second device can communicate wirelessly. The detachable second device allows a user to utilize the full capabilities of the mobile phone without having to remove the second device away from the user's ear, thus preserving the privacy of a phone call. The first and second displays can interact with each other or operate independently in the open, closed or detached configurations."
Techie Buzz got their hands on a handful of sketches of this upcoming concept phone from Nokia.
The design as you can see reveals interesting aspects of the phone, like how it can be used as a remote for the Microsoft's gaming consoles. The ability to speak in one of the display while using the other for video chat - now that is truly multitasking. While it is still a concept phone, we are truly impressed with the idea which will be a game changer in the mobile market. According to Techie Buzz, "having springs and hinges in a phone isn’t the best hardware design. Too many moving parts, screens and keyboards go loose & the phones are heavy."
Among the other dual-display smartphone you can look forward to one from Kyocera Echo which comes with dual touchscreen and a patent-pending Super Copper Alloy 'pivot hinge'. The device sports two 3.5-inch, 800-by-480 TFT LCD capacitive touchscreens, a 5-megapixels camera with Flash and I GHz processor. It is presently available in US for $199.99 ( R 10,000) with a two-year service contract. Sony's S2 tablet will also be seen supporting this hinge mechanism along with LG Genesis which features two touch displays measuring 3.5-inch external and 3.2-inch internal. Looks like we are heading for exciting times ahead.
