It is no secret that Google brought the smartphone to the average consumer with its Android platform. Google has repeatedly achieved excellence with its Android platform. All its updates to the Android OS such as the Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread and finally, the Honeycomb have served as milestones for Google. Its next update to its OS, the " Ice Cream Sandwich" is being eagerly awaited and speculated about.
With the Asian customer base for mobiles exploding to 3 billion, it is no wonder that everyone wants to capitalize on it. Google being one of the stalwarts of the industry, aims at an Asia-centric Android approach.
The smartphone and tablet market is no longer a niche area and every new company from Spice to Huawei is using the Android. The arrival of the Ice Cream Sandwich spells good news for the average Android user. Its touted to be miles above the existing Honeycomb OS.
Google has announced that its new OS will be centered around the Asian consumer. It will be equipped with many new features. Google plans to introduce an advanced search feature called " Google Googles".
With 800 million mobile subscribers, and one fourth of them smartphone users, India stands to benefit from this feature immensely as Google is providing a never before voice translation feature.
Google has tied up with the local telecom service providers to offer more and more local content. The Google Google feature is a plus for you if you are a traveler. It provides content in four Indian languages. Using this feature a person speaks into the phone into one language and it gets translated into another. For example, lets say i am a Delhi guy in Manipur who needs to interact with the locals. I can do this easily by speaking into my phone in Hindi and using Google Googles to translate into Manipuri. This feature ensures better communication between them and me. Amazing isn't it?
Not only that, the Ice Cream Sandwich will be ensuring that it is miles ahead of its competitors such as Apple and Amazon. Armed with so many features and not to forget, the local expertise, both the Ice Cream Sandwich and Google's approach towards Asia are points to look out for.
The Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to release within the next six months, so keep an eye out for it.
