Nokia was once the whole and soul of the mobile market. In India, especially, Nokia was considered the most reliable and advanced mobile company. But, times change.
Now Nokia has stepped down from being the king of the market to being just another stakeholder. Its market share has been usurped by not only other giants like Samsung, LG etc. but also by Indian companies such as Micromax and Spice.
Now, Nokia plans to bounce back. Its Symbian OS is already in the pipeline. But, the hot news right now is the Nokia Perks service. Let me provide you with an overview of what Nokia perks is and how it will change the way we shop.
Nokia Perks plans to compete with the international giant, Groupon, a free coupon service with its indian venture -Sosasta.com. Nokia tried its best to conceal its service, but it got leaked in a Vimeo video online.
Nokia Perks, is based on the Groupon concept.
What this means is that Nokia plans to provide an online coupon service. But coupons have been there for so long, so how is Nokia planning to tweak it? With Nokia Perks, Nokia will provide an online coupon that can be found on its website, nokiaperks.com.
The twist is that this coupon will entitle you to higher discounts than the ones presently available in the market. Lets say for example , you would like to buy a pair of shoes. So, how do you get the best deal? Simply go online and search in the fashion section, fin the ones you like and just select. What happens next is that if you and a set number of other people decide to purchase the same product, and go for it, then all of you get a discount - may I add a huge discount.
And the best part, you don't even need to carry paper coupons. Just go online and retain the coupon to your phone and voila you have a deal. The speculations have already begun for Nokia Perks. With Nokia being the first mobile company to provide such a service, it is quite likely that others would follow the suit.
If Nokia Perks becomes a success, it could revolutionize the mobile market. The Nokia Perks service is definitely one to watch out for.
Recently Google introduced its Near-Field Communications technology (NFC) to the android phones where in the users simply swap their mobile phones against a small reader at a checkout stand to make payments.
